cut glass is a style of decorating it.
by grinding and polishing patterns into it .
by its thickness, it looks pretty old, so I'm guessing it may be.

I Have one I dug from a privy that has the same type bottom mark to it. Can't tell from the pic but is the opening in yours is rough in appearance almost as if it got clogged up and a knife was inserted to clear it?

I do notice one seam line down one side on mine, but there is no seam line that I can see on the opposite side. Mine has a smooth pattern so I don't think mine was cut glass. The top, which appears to have been made from pewter, is still partially intact but if I ever find a matching top I may replace it.

Post note: Cleaned it up today and it actually has 3 seams equally spaced apart that run up through the threading to the very top.

Yes it's a 1882 mason lid with pat date there so many of I just leave them at dumps.

I am one of those guys who just can't leave em. The porcelain Boyds capso are mundane I suppose but the dated closures are always a favorite for me. I suppose one who digs far more often than me can suffer a few leave behinds.thanks John.
