that bit of info was mean for newbies stan ( lots of new folks know nothing about the rare heart cobs and would think they are post mint altered coins)-- clearly that tidbit of info was not for you
It appears that the hole was made by a nail with a cone point, heated enough to melt the silver.
Note the excess flashing around the edge of the hole.
I wonder if it was done after or during minting. I expect "during" because of the large flap.
Just thinking...
