So, been having almost no luck finding much metal detecting this year.:BangHead: It has been pretty frustrating! I have been hunting hard for some tokens, but haven't found hardly any coins of any kind. The other day I went out and felt I had a good day,:laughing7: found two pins, (I think they went maybe in the button hole on a lapel?) very interesting to find two pins so much alike, both have threaded shafts, one still had the back on it. Anyhow, the Thomas Francis Meagher pin has some neat history behind it...here is a link for some history on Meagher and the association that funded the statue for him, which is in frount of the State Capitol building. It was erected in 1906 I believe, and the pin is from the group who funded it I belive....Thomas Francis Meagher - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I also found another pin that says "The News Boys Club Butte". The back is still on the pin!(pretty happy about that) Still has some blue and white enameling on it too. It's going to be fun researching it...has the number 495 on it, so I am hoping I can maybe track down who wore it! I'll have to head to the archives and see what I can find! Found a cool skeleton key, and lastly found a buckle, pretty trashed,(pretty bummed about it) but as far as what is left of it, on the right side I can see the remanents of a wreath? And some "rays" at the top. But that is all I can make out. It almost looks like an eagle sword belt plate to me? I donno for sure, and was hoping some one might be able to tell better than me as I have only seen them in pictures! Anyway, thanks for looking!:hello: (The ground is gonna freeze here soon, gotta get back out there!!!!!):tongue3:

Nice finds. Love finding items that require a little search to find the history. The hunt doesn't stop with the dig.

You found some good stuff! The skeleton key is nice, as are the pins!

However, that Eagle sword belt plate is AWESOME. That is an eagle sword plate, no doubt about it. However, it looks kinda "new". I am used to seeing them all dirty and pitted, the back of that one looks nice. Someone that knows more than I, will chime in shortly...

Congrats!

X2. Congrats on a difficult to find plate!

That key is a great one!

Pretty sure that is a key to a railroad lock. Nice finds

Here in Montana, being an Eagle sword belt plate, it probably is "newer" compared to civil war era plates. More than likely it would have been from the Indian wars here. That is just my uneducated guess.... I'm "Stoked" if thats what it is, but really bummed out about the condition of it! Any significance to the # 3 on the back?
