Headed back out to the park area I had a good day at and two firsts for me including a 1972 Eisenhower Dollar, and a Lady's Gold Ring (posted in Today's Finds). Rounding the end of a perimeter fence I get a signal. As I dig and move the dirt away, I'm like there is no way. I can't possibly keep having this unusual streak of luck. :laughing7: As I live in a very historical town, I figured this could be a possibility. Anyway, The target appeared to be a Confederate Munition such as a grape shot or projectile of some sort. :icon_scratch: Sent my wife a picture from my phone and explained what I thought it might be but, wasn't gonna swear to it and make an ass out of myself. :tongue3: It even appeared to have what looked like where the wick, etc might be.

After getting it home and getting it cleaned up, it ends up being some kind of big shifter/controller knob. :BangHead::BangHead::BangHead:

:laughing7::laughing7::laughing7::laughing7::laughing7::laughing7: Ya gotta love metal detecting. We always have that moment of anticipation right below the surface of the soil. :laughing7::laughing7::laughing7::laughing7::laughing7::laughing7:

The old "8 ball " was big back when. See anything that would indicate that?

1ShotWade, I remember those, but this isn't one. Brings back memories. Those were hard, glossy plastic. This is more of an old heavy resin or heavy dense dull plastic with the brass threaded end, which originally with mud caked all around appeared to be were possibly the wick or nipple was. LOL. Ended up being were it would screw onto whatever it came off of. I knew that it felt lighter than iron and did not have anything for measurement, so had my suspicions but still had that bit of hope in the back of my mind. Oh well, it gave me a moment of what if's. :laughing7: Maybe next time.

Reminds me of my 1923 wheat cent, which I was almost sure was a 1922 no d wheat cent (big key date). I swear I thought I found one, and I was jumping around, until I rubbed more dirt off, and found out it was a 1923 wheat penny
