I found this around the same area I found 3 IHPs. They all came out of the ground completely covered. I had to soak them all for days. This one almost looks like it's brass. It has a different metal that went through it at one time, You can see the staining in the pics. Those 2 little notches make me think it is an electrical box knockout.(slug)

I was kinda thinking that as well. Those notches are there for a reason. The only thing is that this old home site is nowhere near anything. And the area hasn't been filled with trash

Perhaps the coin was mounted on something or made into a button/cufflink. That explains only the back being covered. Probably welded or glued a back on it made of brass or something. Maybe the shenk broke off.

Hi Matt, yeah I was wondering if it was nailed to something. It literally was maybe 3 feet from foundation. The metal that is still in the hole is definitely iron.
