Found this piece of bone in a hilltop crop field on the same property where I find my stone points in creeks....the nearest creek is 500 yards away or more. I'm fully expecting to be told that the marks on the piece of bone are natural or incidental but I thought I'd take some pics and see what you guys think. I looked for a "bone" forum and didn't find one.

Last two pics are for size reference...

Part of a turtle shell. I found these all the time on Ft Ancient sites I hunt. It must have been a big part of their diets.

I was wondering if it might be....didn’t mention it because I wanted unbiased thoughts. I don’t find much old bone....mostly recent stuff, mainly deer and small mammals.

Thanks!!

Terrapins or land turtles were a big part of their diet. Some of those Southern Plains people still eat them. They go out in the spring and round them up. Then you just throw them in the fire alive. If they try to crawl out you throw them back in til they're done. I helped catch some but when it came to eating them I just wasn't that hungry that day. Plus I didn't want to take away from the other folks there.
