Thousands of 'rare' Roman coins discovered in Montgomeryshire return to region
THOUSANDS of “rare” Roman coins found in Montgomeryshire have returned to the region and are being displayed at a local museum.
The find, which has been described as one of the “rarest” in Wales with the Roman coins thought to date back between AD 238 and 274, is now being displayed at the Powysland Museum in Welshpool.
During a search of grassland in June 2011 a metal detectorist found thousands of Roman silver coins on grassland near Montgomery.
