Threaded brass relic.....Any ideas?

Found this brass piece in an area with a lot of colonial activity. It almost reminds me of the top jaw screw to a flintlock rifle, but seems too thin??? Also has a little post running through the hole in the ball end, and werent the flintlock screws normally iron anyway?

It's a drawer pommel I've found quite a few of them.Yes they do go back to the 18th century.The pic. below is some I put in my display case(3) still have the nuts on two.Also give you a site tsee for yourself.
