I haven't been out detecting at all due to the heat. So I stopped at an estate sale this weekend just around the corner from me. It was a 93 year old man that had passed away. Everything was high price on Saturday, so I stopped by again late on Sunday just as they were shutting down, so everything was dirt cheap.
I was going through a box and found a tiny jar that had what looked like three pennies in it so I bought the whole box for $1.00.
I got home to see what was inside the jar and there was:
1) A 191? "S" penny. The last digit was damaged. I was hoping for a 1912 "S" but we will never know.
2) A 1939 penny that was used to make a button?
3) A heart stopper IH penny. It was pretty smooth so I had to put it under a scope. It looked like an 1877 at first, but after a better look with more lighting I saw it was an 1875. :BangHead:
Oh well.
Thanks for L@@King,
MM

What else was in the box? Sounds like a fun way to spend a buck!
So there was some old bottle openers, some IBM printer ribbon from to 70’s or 80’s, some aluminum film canisters, and this cool wooden chicken toy from Sweden. 👍

I didn’t mention it, but the guy was a big Playboy buff too. He had large old calendars from the 1960’s, an official Playboy charge card, and hundreds of Playboy magazines from the 1950’s up to the early 2000’s. By the time i got there Sunday the choice years from the 50’s and 60’s were long gone. I bought 340+ magazines from 1975 to 2003. Most were bound with string and were complete years. I paid $100 for them and sold them off on eBay. 👍
It was funny to look back and see all of the celebrities that had graced the covers over the years. I could have done without the one with Madonna with more hair under her arms than I have. 🤪🤮
I also bought an old wood router for $5 to use for robot parts. These two robot heads were from that router.

That is just plain cool as the dickens! Well done and very creative!

Thanks all for looking. I swear I will get back to metal detecting once this heat is over and the grandkids are back home. 👍

Here's a Mexican version for sale.
You did well 👏

I'd say you did pretty good for a $ 1.00. I'm sure it was worth the fun.

Well done.
Looks like the 1939 cent is in bezel.
For the 1875 IH cent, can you post an image of the N from (CENT) on the reverse? That might be a sought after variety if there is a raised die dot on it.

I wish it was. I checked the "N" already. I didn't know about that until I looked at the Red Book.

Thank you for posting that! I'll bet each of those three pennies had a story - that is why they were in that tiny jar, saved for all these years.

Good luck to all,

The Old Bookaroo
