Hey guys, I went back out for a very short hunt to a known civil war Calvary camp and found this button. It says U.S. ARMY on it. This park has been occupied since the civil war so I'm not saying it's a civil war button. I'm just hoping someone can give me a great round about time period. Thank you guys and HH.

It is a zinc four-hole button used as the waist-closure button on World War One US Army field-uniform pants (which is why it says US Army on it). I've got photos showing one on the pants, with a sewn-in label from the clothing-contractor saying made in 1918... but my computer's hard-drive crashed and my relic-photos folder is inaccessible until my computer gets fixed.

I should mention, there was a smaller version, also made of zinc, marked simply *USA*, which was used (with several others) to close the fly on the pants.

Thank you guys for the awesome info! It's crazy... this place is always good for some nice finds. It was inhabited since the civil war and I've actually found a few great seal buttons there as well. They must have kept using it for training I guess. It's a city park now.
