I've owned a Minelab Excalibur since 1990. Last year I had to send in my unit as the on/off switch went out on me. The replacement wasn't much better since sometimes it didn't shut the detector off and killed the battery. Now I set my threshold where I like it and simply disconnect the plug from the battery when I'm through. This saves wear and tear on the rotary switch and I get full use of my batteries.
My rechargeable batteries won't hold a charge anymore and the replacement for them would be about $60. from a Battery Plus+ store and even more from Kellyco. Instead I bought a 8 pack battery holder and inserted 8 alkaline batteries I purchase from Big Lots for $2.00. The holder was tight when I inserted it so I had to grind off some of the plastic ears on the holder until the holder slides in and out easily. I get about 14 hours use out of the batteries and usually find lots of clad in those 14 hours to cover the cost of the batteries. Now I have two battery packs for my Excalibur.
Good luck TH'ing.
