I've owned a Minelab Excalibur since 1990. Last year I had to send in my unit as the on/off switch went out on me. The replacement wasn't much better since sometimes it didn't shut the detector off and killed the battery. Now I set my threshold where I like it and simply disconnect the plug from the battery when I'm through. This saves wear and tear on the rotary switch and I get full use of my batteries.

My rechargeable batteries won't hold a charge anymore and the replacement for them would be about $60. from a Battery Plus+ store and even more from Kellyco. Instead I bought a 8 pack battery holder and inserted 8 alkaline batteries I purchase from Big Lots for $2.00. The holder was tight when I inserted it so I had to grind off some of the plastic ears on the holder until the holder slides in and out easily. I get about 14 hours use out of the batteries and usually find lots of clad in those 14 hours to cover the cost of the batteries. Now I have two battery packs for my Excalibur.

Good luck TH'ing.

FLauthor,

Thanks for the tips on the excalibur. I traded my beach hunter ID and PI Pro through consignment at Kellyco for an excalibur 800, January 03. In this day and age, one has got to think outside the box so to speak and be creative from time to time! ::)

I'll be taking me semi-annual treasure huntin trip to FL next month and will keep your tip at hand! 8)
