With an 1837 bust cap dime! My first! ECSTATIC! Before this, my oldest silver was an 1898 barber quarter. She is in good shape minus some stubborn dark "stuff" on the surface. Any way to safely get that off?

Awesome job...

Congrats on your oldest, sweet bust capped dime!!

Every day is a good day for Bust

Awesome! Congrats!!

Wow. A lot of capped busts have been found lately. Maybe its my turn. Try pouring some salt in a piece of tin foil, place coin over salt, then pour a little white vinegar in and add some more salt to the top of the coin. Fold the foil over the top of the coin, wait and then gently remove coin, rinse then rub with your finger. Do not rub until all salt is rinsed off or you will scratch it

Sweet silver find! :occasion14:

Big congrats on the bust dime! :occasion14:

Very nice. There's a coin cleaning section of the forum. I also use a foil technique, but different than Toasted.

Congrats on your first Capped Bust coin.

Right now there are a lot of jealous people looking at your post. I have a first year of issue 1837 seated dime, quite a few Spanish silver pieces, but have yet to find any bust coinage. Congratulations! Great find. I also use a tin foil technique. I wrap the coin loosely in a little foil and boil it in water for a few minutes. Black stuff usually rubs right off. Here's a 2 real I found that was black.
