A few finds from a field in East Alabama. I found the button about 6 inches down. I have never seen one so long. I would like to know what kind of button it is! I added pics of top and bottom of the button. I do not see any marking on it. The CH Guyot suspenders piece was about 4 inches down and the Mississippi Tax Token was a neat find for the day!

That is not a button but it is a leather brad. I noticed that it still has a small piece of leather still attached.

What exactly is a leather brad? It did have a piece of leather attached. I had a good day of finding pieces with leather still attached. I will post a pic of a huge buckle I think was used on a harness for a mule that was used to plow the cotton fields. I am cleaning it. It had several pieces of the leather strap still attached.

What u referred to as a button is also called a knapsack rivet. They are very common in civil war camp sites.

Its funny where you can find those tax tokens. A few years back I found an Alabama tax token up here in Illinois.

Thanks! Funny thing is, I found that about 15ft from where I found the Indian Wars era General Service button from an earlier post. The spot had several iron hits I did not dig!

Thanks everyone!

Nice finds, get back to that spot and dig it up. HH....

Those things get around. I found one while digging the lawn of the old Floyd County GA courthouse many years ago. But then, Floyd county adjoins Alabama. Impressive that you would find one in Illinois. Cool stuff!!

Thanks Bigdawg. Just happened to find it in a patch of woods I was hunting.
