Today's Curb Finds - Silver and Cold Hard Cash :)

Was on my way to the beach yesterday when I spotted some neat looking "trash" a few blocks away from my house. So I drove back home, parked my car, got my truck, and after looking through some of the material decided I would take a chance and take it. So I tossed a few bags I deemed acceptable into the truck, drove back home, parked the truck, then got back in my car and went to the beach. Had a great day at the beach, it was packed. Had the ExCal-II with me in the back but I didn't feel like detecting (I know, sacrilegious right? :laughing7:).

Well today I got around to looking through some of the boxes and bags in that I had tossed in the truck yesterday. Got alot of nice things, too many to list.

Some of the better finds from the haul included (as pictured) a weighted Sterling Silver candle holder, a couple of vintage silver-plated utensils, a wallet (which had 3 $1 bills inside, no ID or anything else though), an unused $25 gift card for AMC movie theater (just in time for Jurassic World), a complete DVD box set of Law and Order, a neat Puma watch, magnifying glass, and 16 cents in change. Also found (but not pictured) a nice leather jacket, a big box of brass screws, and an English Pewter tankard.

The pile (there is more on the other side of the tree not pictured):

Ye gads what a haul My wife would make me rake it all back.

Good saves. I have pulled many items from the curb. Treasure is where you find it.

It never ceases to amaze me what others consider to be trash. :icon_scratch:

Congrats,
Dave

The fork may or may not be plated. (might be coin)

Love to see the mark.

OWK, please elaborate on "coin silver" utensils.
Thanks
Peace ✌

Early British silver is generally made to either the Sterling standard, (.925) or the Britannia standard (almost .960) and marked with assay marks accordingly.

Early American silver is generally constructed from re-purposed coins and melted old silver, (hence the "coin" silver) and is generally not assayed or marked, other than with a makers' mark, and possibly either the word "standard" or the word "coin". More often than not however, coin silver has only a makers' mark, or no mark at all.

American coin silver was made from the earliest colonial times, up until about 1870 or so.

The fork above, has a fiddle back form which is common on mid 19th century American coin silver. It might be coin, or it might be plate that was made in the style of coin.

Another great save ! I'm absolutely gobsmacked at what people deem to be rubbish ! Insane .
