lots of recoveries

Cool stuff!

I agree. Cool stuff ! I find the "hat" very interesting. At first I thought it might be the top of a vintage pottery/ceramic cookie jar,
then I thought it might be the top of a vintage tobacco jar. I wonder if it was a custom made piece presented to the man whose image
is on the inside of the "hat" ? Seems to be a military man, maybe a general. French ? Spanish ? Mexican ? Seems to be a highly decorated man
looking at the image. A search for famous old-time generals, dictators, foreign presidents etc. might yield a similar image.
Would be interesting to know what the rest of the jar looked like. Maybe an image of the guy. Might be some broken pieces in the area where you found it that you could piece together. Here's some images of tobacco jars:

That piece is VERY cool! It looks like Mussolini to me. While for the pics it doesn’t really look like an ashtray, they produced ash trays during WW2 that allowed butts to be put out on the faces of the Axis.

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

I like your take on this. I was looking at it wrong. It could be one of those WW2 ash trays. (new knowledge for me !! Thanks !)
I took one of "Freakn's" pics and enlarged & rotated it. The image looks a little ghost-like but it looks like the piece was made
to sit face-up to be seen rather than hidden under the "hat" if it was the top of a jar. Probably just a single piece & not the top of something else. Pretty cool if "Freakn" can figure out who the guy is. (see rotated pic)

Great digs! I'd like to see that Bowie knife or whatever it is cleaned up, wonder if it's marked? Maybe I'm being silly but it really does look like a fighting blade, not a typical utilitarian knife we usually find, and being 100+ years old is pretty darn cool, maybe even discarded evidence! 8-)

Love that old embossed glass, we’ll done sir
