Re: Today's find, another nice point!

That is nice as hell. Looks big and perfect. I've been looking in area's where indians were heavy. Haven't seen any in the creeks yet. But I'll keep looking though.

That's a nice one! I've developed a recent interest in points and have done some research on local areas. Found a great spot to start looking but weather has been lousy. Wanted to combine detecting and checking the creek for points. There is a possibility of finding large-type points with holes in them. Story has it that the Indians in this area actually used the points with a sling and they could toss them at a target, always keeping them traveling point first. Ever heard of anything like that? This place even looks like it could hold some sort of religious meaning to the Indians; it's a beautiful area. There is an abandoned house from the 20's there and, across the creek, a site that I was told used to have a cabin on it from the 1860's. Soon as I can I'm checking it out.

Hey Packerbacker, where in No.Cal are you located? I was raised in Siskiyou county, a little town called McCloud right on the base of Mt.Shasta. We used to find all kinds of obsidian points as kids, my Dad who now lives Butte Montana just told me he has a bunch of arrowheads to give me when I go visit. Im realy looking forward to getting my grubby hands on them, havent seen one in 25 years. I'll post pics of them when I get em. ;D

Re: Today's find, another nice point!

Hi Mighty, I work in Redding and live in Red Bluff. I see Mt. Shasta every day. Lot of snow on her now. We've been getting a lot of rain and we're dumping a lot of water out of Shasta Dam to avoid flooding on the Sacramento. Badandy finds some nice points, especially that last big one. I would think his would be harder to spot than those made of obsidian. The place I've got in mind is farther South of me, near Stonyford. I'm not sure what material was used in that area so, basically, I don't know what I'm looking for as far as color or mineral. I guess once I find one they'll be easier to spot. Guys like badandy find so many I thought I'd give it a shot. Combining metal detecting with point hunting.

Just think packerbacker, when you find one, you will be the first one to hold that point or tool in thousands of years. You might end up getting bit buy the flint bug and let me tell ya the fever is no joke. LOL!
