I hit my first field that in the past has yielded a nice pestle and many hafted scrapers. The hafted scrapers held up with 3 complete hafted scapers found, tips and bases also

The second point was very close to the first blade tip

Second field now, close to where I found the ax and red dove last year.

And there is was, a small ax, I saw the rock about 7 feet away. With what looked like a groove but very faint.
it was a small ax, possibly what could be considered miniature

Looking good
20200405_141745.webp

You can see here only a small part was exposed.
20200405_141749.webp

Very close another point.

Then a small tip a little later
20200405_151054.webp

This small point almost looked like a flake until I looked closer
20200405_151506.webp

Here you can see the small notch and how the recurve of the sharpening caused the curve

The ax after wash - groove seen better

In profile you can see the groove an ax shape

The poll is not too beat up
20200405_190831.webp

The bit is in pretty good shape
20200405_190834.webp

The entire lot -- sort of bad pic, if I get the notion I will take more of them

Weather was overcast with slight drizzle in the morning from about 9 until 11
After 11 it was overcast, winds were steady. Temps were forecasted to get into the 60s however it only reached low 50s. So pretty cool, hat gloves - ear muff style.
I threw down the look like a blind drunk hobo dressed me I am sure.
Ground conditions were good due to the overnight rain and drizzle, Overcast resulted in low shadows.
Field 1 ground conditions were very good
Corn stubble in field 2 were extensive so the finds there was very good for the field conditions

Oh yea- 7.5 hours walking time. Stopped once when driving from field 1 to field 2 - Legs tired, tight. long long walking in dirt time

Nice scores! That little hatchet is stellar!

Kindest regards,
Kantuck

Awesome find on the axe!!! I've found a few hard stone celts but never a grooved axe. Well done sir.

Good finds, good story and good night

I got to agree that axe is a day maker for sure. Great pics too. You are getting toughened up quick.

Some better images

Approx 3.5 inches in length

This is one small hafted scraper. Only 1 1/8 inches in length. Def chipped edge
20200406_115800.webp

two inches in length
20200406_115808.webp

One and three fourths inches in length. This one, of all of them found yesterday has a very worn from use front edge area. the lip of the scraper edge is rounded like you would expect to see on a ground base.
20200406_115815.webp

An attempt to show the worn lip area
20200406_115824.webp

The red hafted scraper is 1 1/2 inches in length
20200406_115847.webp

2 1/4 inches in length

Yea its pretty nice thanks.

I counted 10 plow strikes on it. All relatively minor as a plow strike in my opinion as they did not break off any chunks.

This is also interesting since its so old, and to be hit 10 times (that I can see) and not do major damage is an interesting odd calculations.

The ax also has a relatively flat top side from the groove to the bit. You can see it some in the below photos. While one is not well in focus the shadow does help show the curve and lack of curve on the top.

Another interesting feature is the lack of significant peck marks. I think most have been polished out.

Very nice day! That mini is a beauty! Rarity here.

The range of colors in the materials you find are wonderful. Up here, the color of (some not all) local materials are quite unattractive (but still chosen for effective purpose)
Appreciate your posts.
