So those of you that remember my thread about using Facebook to get permissions, I had a hit from another detectorist along with about four new permissions. This detectorist invited me along to check out a new field he felt had potential. According to one of the old maps, there was a home behind another early home. Early to mid 1800's on both homes. We had to access the field through the first home (all the same property now). Walked about 1/2 mile to the creek, forded the creek and up a steep bank and into the woods. About a 1/4 mile in we came to the west side of the field. The old home would have been on the east side if there. The old field, no longer farmed, was about 3/4 acre. Started swinging at the eastern edge. Nothing but crickets and a couple of iron nails.

He found a large pile of rocks on the eastern edge in the woods large enough to have come from a foundation. We moved into the woods on the Eastern edge found a bunch of shot gun head stamps, some bullets, and a couple shell casings (9MM and .22 Hornet). Since we hadn't found much by this point, we decided to walk back to the standing home and swing. Lots of trash although some of the trash was old tin. I found a 1944 Silver Washington (my first), a 1966 clad dime, and a 1925 Wheat. As it was almost dusk, it was time to head home.

From the field and woods (eastern edge). The dime is from the standing homesite.

Standing homesite. I spared you the trash. You all see enough of that! :tongue3:

I noticed when I took the photo it looks like I hit the quarter with the shovel.

I think the field warrants some more investigation. There are roads leading away and I've found what looks like a possible foundation using Lidar.

It appears to be on the northeastern edge at the base of the hill. We were working the southeastern edge by the creek.

Thanks for looking...

I forgot about this thin brass buckle I found at the standing home site.

I like the description of the search. Hope you locate a homesite or two and make some good finds.

Congrats on the Silver Quarter and good luck with the LIDAR hits !
