Nice score! That wouldn't happen to be a flying eagle cent? They are 88%copper & 19mm in diameter. To me it's got that outline look of the eagle.

Depending on the year of the $1 gold it is either 13 or 15 mm in diameter. The 3 cent piece is 14 mm in diameter, and being that it is only 75% (as opposed to other US silver coins at 90%) and 25% copper, and that fact that it was found under water, could make it look like the way it looks, instead of the way the silver dimes look. Without better pics though, its hard to tell.
