Why would someone want or need to lock a casket?.....NGE

Not sure what a US casket looks like. But over here it is a small box, like a jewelry box. Also tea caddies had locks to stop people nicking it.

Ha! Ha!

'People separated by a common language!'

Here, on the large island, a casket is what we use to set the cadaver within, to be interred.

Or,

thanks nick, very kind words for such a sad post

crusader, after being reduced to posting stuff like this, that news really was "a kick in the nuts" :D :D :D

but i think i might know where theres a treasure chest if your up for it!

Yea rmptr, that is a casket. Here some are much plainer then that one, and the people look much nicer... After the body is in, and the family puts (if they want to do that) the persons valuables in with him (rings and stuff like that), the casket is locked and the key given to the family. I am not sure if there are duplicates though. Many casket keys are iron, but a lot are bronze also.

Shaun, nice finds, which of the items do you not know what it is? Do you mean the button that has come loose (front and back)? Just keep looking for good places Shaun, that's the clue!!

the one in the bottom two pics, the back which has come off looks to have been pinned to something and the front clipped on(see the two small holes) the pics are crap i know!
thanks for trying to help woody! all this talk of caskets is strange because i have a feeling this could be something to do with death!

OK now I understand which items.. Sorry but the photos are too fuzzy for me to be able to see them correctly, that is why
they look like buttons. But they are not you say, so I would have to have better photos first. (have you tried the macro function?)

Well, Shaun, talking about caskets 'is' strange, but we all will need one sometime, won't we? So the more we understand and know what they are the less problems we will have when we finely have one... Anyway now you know how to keep your stuff with you when..... (just don't forget the key).

Shoun, you were in the right spot, everything is looks very old.Good hunt. Go back there! Pannonian

thanks all for the replies
