Today's hunt 1869 shield nickel
A friend at work owns alot of ground up north of here and back in the day they were several smaller farms, each with their own house. Most of the houses are long gone but he has a very good memory of where they once stood. I went to a new one this morning and hunted most of the day finding one wheatie and a couple shotgun shells. So I decided to try a different place just before dark to see if it was worth driving back up there to hunt. As soon as I pulled into the old mud lane that led back to the foundations I noticed a sign that said this farm had been in the same family for over 150 years...YES! First hole was part of an old pocket watch, then started digging wheaties. Right when it was getting time to go, I got a penny signal at .05 inches, this was away from the foundations where they have been farming the old side yard, looked down and picked up a copper washer, swept over the spot again and got a strong nickel signal at 2". Thats where I found my newest addition to my collection, and a first, an 1869 shield nickel. I think I'll go back!
