Today's hunt with Pocket Spill and Etrac007

Hi everyone!! Paul here, I changed my username...read on to find out why... :laughing7: Went out for the day with Pocket Spill and Etrac007 to hit a Chicago park early this morning (buttcrack of dawn). PS and I headed up north to continue hunting around 2 pm; I hunted until 7:30 pm when it got too dark to see :D . Had a great time!! Lots of cool stuff, but sadly no silver coins for me :'( . Finds include a toy sportscar that looks like it was stepped on by Godzilla, a large washer, a nut (hey, aren't we all... :laughing9:), a Dorothy Brown mayoral campaign button, a Navy reserve medallion, a Costa Rica 100 Colones coin (dated 2000), and a whopping $6.55 in clad (15 clad quarters, 26 clad dimes, one clad Jefferson nickel, and 15 memorial pennies (13 copper and 2 zinc)). Pros and cons of todays hunt: PROS-LOTS of clad ;D , dug almost no trash today, I'm FINALLY starting to know/learn my machine (and am no longer digging "iffy" signals), today was enjoyable, I discovered that Chicago parks are FULL of clad coins...CONS-it was REALLY windy and cold today, I DEFINITELY need a probe/pinpointer asap because I'm tired of digging huge holes and losing signals (also I scraped 3 coins w/ my Lesche when digging them (thank goodness they were clad)), didn't find any silver (this may be due to my not digging "bouncy" or "iffy" signals for fear that they would turn out to be trash), didn't get any good deep targets that were likely to be older coins (all coins were found 2-4 inches deep, some right on the surface, and many just under the soil (like half an inch)), BOTH of my arms are sore and have occasional numbness. Other interesting notes: just missed silver with 2 of the quarters (one was a '65 and the other a '67 dammit >:( ), and one of the copper memorial pennies may have been struck on a clipped planchet (though it is hard to tell as the coin was dinged by a mower blade and is bent). After todays MONSTER clad day, you all hopefully see why I changed my username. If there are any Navy vets here that want the reserve medallion, just let me know (I'm a former Army guy, so it doesn't do me much good... :tongue3:). Pics below. Enjoy!!

Re: Today's hunt with Pocket Spill and Etrac007

Clad,
(Or should I slay Cladislav the Impaler), Nice job... I don't know about the Ace, but with a lot of machines, clad sounds spot on with Silver. So you are learning your machine well. A lot of guys cherry pic the deep signals, which is why you maybe didn't find too many deep signals, but I am sure there are many who have stories of finding silver close to the surface, so something may come your way as a surprise....
Clad you got out Vadiclad,
-Jon

Super group of finds Paul! Great hunting with you today.

Re: Today's hunt with Pocket Spill and Etrac007

That Chicago park I am sure you went to today is hardcore(hard hunting). It took me multiple times hunting there before I got the hang of it. Depending on where you guys were, the goods are either really deep(open field), or masked by trash(perimeter). Either way, I am sure you got a good education today and don't get discouraged. Even the top dogs get skunked now and again!

Keep up the good work, Cladimus.

Re: Today's hunt with Pocket Spill and Etrac007

Great hunting!
One thing to remember on the Ace 250 is it will hit the deepest when nothing is notched out on your Discrimination. Also, when pinpointing, try to walk away on the shallow/louder signals. This gives you more time to find & concentrate on the deeper/whisper signals, when pinpointing.

Re: Today's hunt with Pocket Spill and Etrac007

Great job buddy, you did a lot better than me with your chicago park token. Yours is atleast cool. :laughing9: The silver is out ther just waiting for you. :icon_pirat: This was the only token that I have ever pulled from a chicago park. LOL

WTG, Paul!!!

Keep hanging with those guys and you'll spend all your clad on an E-Trac for sure!

Re: Today's hunt with Pocket Spill and Etrac007

Hey, you got lunch money out of the deal, good 'nuff with time well spent. I think those Navy tokens were all over the place at the Air & Water Show last year, picked up a few there.

Q. Toy Godzilla, Dorothy Brown, what's the difference?
A. Hat size.

Good move with the name change. You are anything but a "boi", and, well, goth is just so 1997! lol jk.

Nice clad finds, Paul. Keep stashing it away, and you'll be surprised how much you'll have when you take it to the bank at the end of the year.

Just a word of advice: You're OK discriminating out the iffy signals with the Ace, since the Ace isn't too hot on deep stuff in trashy environments. However, if and when you plan on moving up to something more sophisticated later on, you'll want to forget all that and dig pretty much any interesting sounding deep signal (I'm talking 7-8 inches plus). A lot of times, coins on edge will not sound like a coin at all. Coin spills containing nickels also can be iffy. Cool relics may not sound just like a coin and may be iffy. A lot of the best stuff found from guys I know originated from an iffy signal. Of course, with this technique comes the nails and deep foil and stuff like that, but it's worth doing the extra digging most of the time. The feeling I get when I find something nice many people have walked over in a pounded area can be euphoric.

Thanks for the good advice and support, Joe. I have never dug a target deeper than about 6 inches w/ my Ace. I have never dug a coin deeper than about 4-4 1/2 inches. I have always heard that the Ace isn't very good @ locating targets deeper than 6", even w/ the larger coil....

Great job Paul. Do you ever watch on ebay for deals to upgrade?
