Hi everyone. I had a pretty good day today, returning to the park where I dug a beautiful '24d merc last Friday. Rumor had it that this park had been pounded for decades and was hunted out. Not quite. I dug silver coins no. 85 and 86 today. #85- a beautiful dateless standing liberty quarter (only my second; it's a type II); #86- a nice '44d merc. Also found a '32 Canadian cent (my first George V), 7 wheats ('20s-'40s), a play dime from 1954, and a little over $5 in clad. I have now officially QUINTUPLED my silver coin total this year compared to last year (oh what a difference an E-Trac makes!!!)!! :o Todays multi silver day definitely helped ease the pain of stepping in multiple piles of dog poop >:( (maybe THAT'S why this particular section still had goodies...). Anyway, pics are below. Enjoy!!

From the land of the Bluenose.....proof that no place is ever truely hunted out. Glad that you found the penny I lost way back when. Nice scooof on the silver and best of the season to you!

Here's a dumb question for you.....what makes the Standing Liberty coin a Type II? And what difference does it make.....is one worth more than the other?

Beautiful Silver! Great Hard work= Good Luck!
May you find more.

Okay, I found it myself. The type II has stars below the eagle on the back of the coin and there are subtle differences on the front, as well, but, with the wear on the found coin in the photo, it would be very difficult to discern them (for me, anyway). From what I could determine, the type I was only made in small numbers (52,000) dated 1916, the rest dated 1917. Coins dated 1918 to 1930 were modified to cover lady Liberty's bare right breast and raise the eagle (so it didn't look like it was landing with its' feet up, ;D) on the back. Some very interesting facts on the standing Liberty quarter can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standing_Liberty_quarter I know I learned a few things, :icon_thumleft:.
