I have not had any luck lately metal detecting, so I thought I would see if my bank had any halves. They usually have to order them, but today they had 13 rolls in the vault.

After arriving home I opened the bag to see two fresh rolls, and eleven rolls taped closed and marked in pencil with "xxx". I knew a hunter had beat me to the punch. I knew my chances of finding silver in the remaining 2 unmarked rolls were slim. But lo and behold, my first roll produced the '62 Bennie! that was it, but it made my day.

BTW: If your bank offers FREE coinstar, like mine does, please use them instead of re-rolling the coins.

Well, hellooo there Ben! Nice going Neil! Maybe the rolls belonged to Agent XXX (Barbara Bach) from The Spy Who Loved Me. Sorry, once a Bond fan, always a Bond fan, just like CRH. :D

Your 1 Franklin beat my 0 silver in my latest $1000 search.

Watch for tonights post! :P

Congratulations I am glad you were able to score a Ben.

You would be surprised to see what banks will do to get you through the door. While supermarkets are charging 10 cents on the dollar, banks in my area are, in fact, letting you cash in for free.

Very nice on the Ben. Sure wish I could find a coin machine at a bank I would be a customer of theirs quickly.
Best Regards, Ray

Hi Neil,I know this is an old post of yours, but I was curious about your free coinstar machines in the banks near you.

Do they let you dump in your halves, count them, and give you cash on the spot or do you have to deposit it into an account there?

Also how many CAN you bring at one visit?Do there bags fill up at $500 or $1000 or ?

I imagine if they have to have a teller there to change the bag every time you dump in $500 worth that they would'nt let you bring in more than that per week, because of the time and labor cost involved with the teller being tied up changing the bag frequently.

Could you please clarify this for me?

Also anyone else who is lucky enough to have a coin counter in their bank, could you please explain the process and how many you are able to bring per day or per week?Thanks...schramm...

Coinstars are in Commerce Banks in the North East & Florida. They are free to anyone. I dont know the size of the bags, my guess is smaller, maybe even $100.

I never got any complaints about bringing in too many, although $1000. was the most I ever did.

I hope that helps

Thanks for the quick reply Neil, but if I read your post correctly it tells me that when you turned in $1,000 they had to change the bag 10+ times while you were standing there feeding more into the machine?

They didn't give you a hard time about this at all?

Do you still use this process or what do you do now?

How many boxes do you search a week? Thanks for your help in answering these questions...schramm...

I doubt it is $100 per bag. I would think $500 or $1000.
