To set up the story I was detecting a house that was torn down which is across the street from the Old Spanish Fort which is located along the St. John Bayou which leads to Lake Ponchatrain. "The Colonial era fort protected the Lake Pontchartrain entrance of Bayou St. John. The first small fort here was erected by the French in 1701, before the founding of the city of New Orleans, to protect the important trade route along Bayou St. John. After Louisiana passed to Spanish control, a larger brick fort was constructed at the site of the neglected old French fortification; this was known as San Juan del Bayou. Louisiana passed back to France and then to the hands of the United States. The fort was decommissioned in 1823". So I metal detecting with the thoughts of finding something old, like real old...and then I found this token!!. Well I can't lie, at 7" down for a second, I thought I hit pay dirt my heart was beating. I started tripping in my head...I was in love, but then after a quick search on eBay I found that they were selling for $2.99 and I loved just the same. Lol I love this hobby.
