Just wondering what causes toned pennies.. Natural or is someone doing this. Picture does not show it well, but I imagine you have seen it. Thanks.

Any number of things, copper is quite prone to toning. Chemicals, moisture, exposure to smoke or other contaminants. Even laying on wood or paper with sulfur in it will cause it. There is almost no end to the number of things that can cause the toning or the different tones themselves.
 

And with the copper plated cents today, the effect is faster, frequently leading to zinc rot.

Time for more coffee.

yellow brass colored coppers & Zinkies are a known annealing/ copper wash error that MAY be valuable. sold a few coppers at 500X face. Zinkie shield cents can lean to brass color from mild to pure brass. zinc migrating into the copper results in brass from improper annealing. only the perfect "yellow" ones will have value
