I decided to hunt the park for a few hours tonight. I believe I confirmed my suspicion that the ballfield was once a home site. After finding the 1936 Radio Orphan Annie decoder a few days ago, tonight I found a Remington UMC Nitro Club #12 shotgun headstamp. My research puts a date range on the shell between 1911-1923, probably closer to the 1911 side.
I believe the field has been plowed over, over the years as the older sections have a gravel layer about 4" down. Still haven't found silver, but I just might come across some eventually.
