found this half penny in the woods by an old wall, didn't think I'd be able to ID. When I got home and took a closer look, the date was the only legible feature. 1747, looks like a Machin Mills copper. Oh well, coulda been a goody, still happy to find...

Man oh man, I would take that anyday of the week, or year for that matter! Congrats....jgas

Hey when you can read the date, still a nice find!

When you can read the date, alot more detail is still hidden.I used the hydrogen peroxide method,(heated in microwave), then drop the coin in. Plop, plop, fizz, fizz. Check out my before and after pics of my 1786 Vermont Ryder-7 copper on the banner. Came out awesome. Good Luck whatever you do. Hogge

If a 1747 coin with a readable date is not a "goodie", then you'd really hate to hunt where I hunt, because all I find are measely silvers.

okay, okay! like I said, I was happy to find. very happy. all I meant was I wish I could've made out more detail....
hogge, thanks for the tip, I will try that. and we should go out sometime, we're just around around the corner from each other and you've definitely got the gift.

Nice find. Be careful with the peroxide on that one though. Peroxide will help with non-corroded coins but it would probably toast that one. It looks to have some corrosion. Awesome that you were able to get a date off of it.

Don't give up on the cleaning that bad boy is one awesome coin
