I recently got back from being out of town and on my way to work noticed that this old house that was on a civil war era property was torn down. I've always thought that would be a great spot to hunt, so last night I gathered my detector and drove up the road to it. They are building condo's next door to it and I believe this property is next as the house was already torn down. There are a couple really big oak trees in the front of it, so I really was looking forward more to finding some old coins than possible Civil War relics. This site is just outside downtown Richmond, VA.

I showed up about 45 minutes prior to a thunderstorm and began hunting. No real good hits. I did find a small caliber modern bullet and a piece of scrap after about 15 minutes. I then recognized a recently dug hole. At that point I stopped and opened my eyes. I had been so focused, I hadn't paid attention to the holes everywhere. I must have seen at least 30-40 recently filled holes over the 1/3 of an acre of the property I was searching. Too late! This place had been cleaned out good...and recently. My dreams of finding some goodies was washed away with the rain that came. I searched more, but couldn't get a good hit anywhere. The early bird gets the worm I guess! Maybe next time.
