Hi all, Most of you have seen the small pieces of gold i have found since the start of the year. Finally last night i got the final couple of grams to make one troy oz. Picking small left-overs of a 100 years of mining is a hard work.I have included my permit to md for gold and a Government Mines department map 1913 of the area which i hunt at the moment in Calfornia Gully, The site is at the north end of the 6th richest saddle gold reef .called the Garden Gully Reef in length 25 miles long and i,m only hunting one small section of it. The yeilds of gold goes into the million of ozs and was mined from 1852 till 1954. The info and map i got under the "Freedom of Public informatiom Act" This allows average person to access old government records .A miners right is all that is required under the law to obtain gold or other minerals on both public and private land. Still need to get premission too to hunt private land. Most of the gold feilds in Victoria are on public land so i have little need to go ask private land owners. At 25 dollars [US] for 2 years seems quite fair.

Those are nice "bits", would have to go down to the Sth. Island for anything like that.
I may have missed it, but what do you use and methods?
Cheers

hi AKiwi only allowed to use pans mds and hand tools these days, motorized gold seeking equipment was band in my state in 1987.I use a Minelab gpx 4500 with a 12 inch mono coil (nuggethunting} Setting are Go to auto tune and the md will find you the quietest frequencey .Then go manual over ride bring the target volume up and set your threshold on about one fifth. Raise your GX gain on 11.Get ground balance and test on a sample .5 of a gram. Hums just like a bee and gobbles up gold . Only lead and gold sound the same except gold is a little more aggresive. After 15 months with a gpx i,m still learning

Congrat's on the your first OZ. :icon_thumright:
The permit is well worth it, now is that for your area only?
Would you need to obtain a another permit if you hunt in a different location?

thats some nice gold

That's some real nice gold

Keep at it and you'll pay for that 4500 in no time :headbang:

Thats nice work for 6 weeks at todays prices. I am sure it will drop a few hundred bucks soon, but will climb back even higher. Apart from the usual inter government gold trrading and rising demand from industry, I am "reliably informed" that the chinese like to cash in their bucks for gold, the new rich in China, about a billion of em will keep prices high. Then theres the extra value for an interesting nugget, all you need is a few beers and a good imagination to find one that looks like Barack.

It looks so good, if I was you I wouldnt be able to sell any of it..

Thats the first time ive seen that version of the miners right. We got em years ago in school when they were very fancy, all gold and florentine script. We dont do tickets very well down here. At Wimbledon ticket for example looks like a personal invitation from the All England Tennis Club. A ticket to the Aussie open looks like a bus ticket. The miners right has gone the same way it seems.

I better be quiet or Brumby will reintrioduce a Gold License, or worse and more likely, a detecting license. Heck they are talking about introducing a push bike license!

Hi mick. thanks for replies too my posts. You live in Melbourne right. Any week end you wish to come to Bendigo for a day out . Just let me know. I can pick you from the train station if you don,t drive. I think the train runs every hour these days and late one on the Week-ends.

tinpan country trains seem to run on time lol

WTG, research, perserverance and hours of hunting are paying off nicely. At this rate you will pay off that detector in no time. ;)

HH, stay safe out there!
