:thumbsup:looks like a typical 1700s trade silver brooch . we find pieces similar to these on the 18th century seneca sites in N.Y. A good reference book is by the Rocheter museum and science center in rocheter n.y. Also trade silver in N. America is a good reference . A good rare find.

I live in northwest Ohio about 15 minutes from Lake Erie. I have a metal detector and I think I'll give it a go. The only trouble is finding time as we may start working ten hour days, six days a week for a while. That stinks!, Unitas

Unitas, i'm east of you a little ways, in north central Ohio, Sandusky river area. The area you and i are in are loaded with mid 1700s to about 1830 fronteir settler and native cabin sites, village sites, trading post sites, etc. If you try a detector where you found the brooch, i expect you may find more trade era items. Good Luck and post if you find more. Here's one i found a half inch under the dust in a cornfield here last year:

The Sandusky river area! I grew up on the Sandusky river. I'm originally from Fremont.
Thanks for the advice. Unitas
Nice ear bob by the way.
