That is an interesting find, but I am not sure if it is a tomahawk as it seems to taper down too much

Good find. Possibly why you found it where you did is that it broke and they threw it away, or dropped it.
Might be good to go back and see if you can find the other piece......if you find it, then you'll know, for sure.
