Hello,

First post here, hoping it's in the correct location. I've had this object for years, and have always wondered what it might be. I've searched extensively online the last few days with no luck...

So, about 15 years ago as a kid, I was on a sand/rock bar in northern Wisconsin swimming. About 2ft deep, maybe 150 yards from shore, we found it by canoe. The lake was in the Sayner area. The sandbar was surrounded by deeper water. I somehow found this stone on the bottom and have kept it since then.

Its about 3/4" thick triangular human-made object, of some type of stone. There is a vein of lighter colored material you can see running across it. There are no chips or flaking. The triangle shape has a relief around the edge, making it appear to be two triangles, one set on top of the other.

I have no idea what it is/where it comes from, but it's certainly man-made. There is a possibility the rock bar was once an island with a lower water level in the lake...

Any ideas?

Really! I'm surprised, based on the fact it is so symmetrical.

oddly enough there are a lot of natural triangular natural stones...also a lot of stones with natural holes. I have found many rocks with natural hexagonal holes...cubes, spheres etc. if you are trying to decide if a rock is an artifact or not a good start is to ask..."what was it used for"...in almost all cases it is obvious....

If it’s any consolation to you, I believe that your stone was altered by human or pre-human. There are much older artifacts, enigmas and mysteries in our soil that lie much, much deeper than more recent artifacts such as points, pottery, etc. When this history resurfaces, unfortunately academics cannot help with identification.

You have been chosen to hold and protect a priceless artifact.

Unfortunately, you won’t find the answer that you’re looking for here.

Best wishes. I think your stone is fantastic. Thank you for sharing.

Welcome to the forum. Your stone is natural, as is CloudKicker's.

we do have a t-net section for these types of rocks
The section for these types of rocks is right here in the Geofact section. A Geofact is a natural rock that has a superficial resemblance to an artifact, at least to the untrained eye.

Time for more coffee.

I believe he responded when this was in the Artifact forum. Most of us long time collectors can recognize geofacts.

Sorry, did not know this thread originated in the Artifact section.

Time for more coffee.
