Tribal? Design on brass 3-legged stand/base

Bought it randomly at a yard sale for $2.50. Was labeled "brass" by the seller. Has threads at the top for something to attach to it. The tribal (?) design and dark green patina caught my eye. What is it?? A lamp stand?

It looks like it is from India. What size is it?

Yeah almost looks like Sanskrit. I think it's some sort of candle burner/trivet for apothecary stuff, it's pretty sweet. For 2.50 that's a steal, what are the dimensions?

About 4 inches at the base and a 1.5 inch open top
