Got out yesterday for a 30 minute hunt to a site I pounded last year and got to a patch across the trail I never thought to hit before. I was swinging around an old oak tree and there were brass signals everywhere about 8 37 on my mine lab. I dug my first plug and up comes a really decorative piece of brass that I believe is a drawer pull. Then about two inches from that up comes a another brass bit thinking it was another furniture brass I just threw it in my back pack and continued to swing and then I got a penny reading. Up comes an 1876 Indian head in beautiful shape first coin of the year they have eluded so far until this one. To bad it's not a 77. When I got back to the car I took a second look at that brass bit I dug I'm looking at it then it hit me that's a trigger guard! It's a first I have wanted to find since started digging four years ago. Any Idea on how old? I'm not a gun efficianado at all. Also a nice plates spoon and a rat tail spoon handle. Thanks for looking -relic dude

Beautiful Indian.

Great looking Indian Head. Those dates in the 1870s are really difficult to find. None of the relics appear to me to be a trigger guard. The one broken piece appears to be a spoon handle. Nice collection of finds!

Thank you it's first object the picture doesn't do any justice

Nice finds RelicDude!

Looks like a trigger guard to me, nice finds!

That's a trigger guard, all right. I found a very similar guard on an 1830's Seminole War site near Middleburg, Florida.

:laughing7: I cant beleive there is any dispute about that being a trigger guard....it is

There is quite the period mix at your site. The utensil handle piece(likely was a spoon)is pewter, they do date to later but generally show up in mid 19 th Century and earlier sites

I would have to see one on a gun before I would go with trigger guard. ends look to long. but they have made a lot of styles. I would say draw pull. nice Indian. hh

Note the tab on the top side....only one? That is the first major clue as to it being a trigger guard....use Google search, there are hundreds of styles to look at.Yes ones with symetrical "arms",are not as common but do exist. Also how would you attach this to a drawer?

Sounds like smarter minds have prevailed! Congrats on finding the trigger guard. That first photo had me fooled.

Nice finds, not sure if that's a trigger guard though. But congrats anyways, and HH!
