Trigger or what?

I can't give you much help with this ID only that it appears to be made of brass or bronze and that it was found on an old (1700's?) property just outside of Philadelphia. Thanks for your help!!

looks like it may be broken off of a hat /coat hook similar to this one. So many varieties of these.
