Detector(s) used
Treasure Ace250 Tesoro Cibola
I just received a Tesoro Cibola that I ordered. I heard great things about it. I haven't had a chance do do anything but air test it. I noticed that when I turn the discriminate knob to tab, it doesn't sound off on a quarter!! I hope I'm missing something in my settings.

Any help, anyone??

When you turn on the sens. knob, how many beeps do you get? If none, check the battery and make sure you have the polarity right. If 3 or less, change the battery. Check the coil connection at the box. Also check your threshold.

Thanks for the response, Stoney. When I turn it on, I get several beeps, I'm sure it isn't the battery. When I assembled the coil connection at the box was extremely tight. More than I have seen on any detector. I'll check that. I'm still working on a good theshold for me. It will beep on a quarter, but quits when I turn the discrimination to the "pulltab" setting. But I will check the connection again.

Thanks.

Is it new or used??? Does it sound off on a nickel at that setting??? I moved from an ACE to a Cibola 2 yrs ago and have never looked back!!!!! You'll love the Cibola, I hope theres nothing wrong though. BTW, try a different battery to be sure.......

Good question, Greg. Where does a nickle drop off at? Where does the knob pointer stop when turned all the way to the right?

The detector is brand new, took it out of the box on Wednesday. I'll try a different battery after work, today.

Just looked at it. The nickle drops off on the mark between iron and Nickle. The knob will go all the way to the right, Stoney, all the way to Max.

Check back later. Thanks for the help!!!

If the detector only beeps 3 times or so, replace the battery. I never let mine get below that.

OK, the nickel shouldn't drop off till the knob pointer is right on nickel. I bought mine used and had to adjust the disc. knob on the shaft. I set the disc. knob to where the nickel just dropped off and then carefully loosened the knob till it slipped off the shaft, then put it back on where the pointer was right on nickel. At Max, it'll even drop off wheaties but let a Silver $ ring in just fine in an air test.
You might also look at the manual to see if you're setting the threshold properly-I have 4 detectors and read the manuals again and again, almost as much as I read TNet.

If you're still having problems, you might want to contact Tesoro and get their insight.

The knob being off is what I was getting at, good job Stoney  It almost sounds like a coil problem possibly??? Call Tesoro and see what they think......

Good luck

Greg

Thanks for helping Stoney and Gregg. Once dad gets it working, I get his Ace250. ;D

Further testing lets me know it may be something major, like the coil. Going thru the manuel again, I noticed that a quarter drops off just below the nickle setting on the disc knob. I am only getting about 3 inches away from the coil if it does sound off. Above the nickle setting on the disc, a quarter gives me nothing, even if I touch the coil.

Tesoro is closed today, I tried to call several times. I guess I'll have to wait until Tuesday.

Yep, better call Tesoro, sorry, that kinda sucks for you. I've hardly ever heard a bad machine coming from Tesoro, but I guess they're not perfect!!!! Let us know how it goes for you......

Greg

Tesoro told me to work with the dealer. The dealer was very upset, and said he would fix it. He had to send me a return number. Later, he left a message on my cell that I should work with Tesoro. So, I have no detector, they have my money.

I will never buy a Tesoro product again!!!!! >:(

The dealer refuses to work with me, won't change it out or give me a refund. I'll send it to Tesoro tomorrow. I'll be out of a machine for about two weeks instead of 3 days.

I don't think I should have to jump thru hoops to get a working detector. Right now, it's nothing to me but a baseball bat.

With that info., I'd Call--not email Tesoro and let them know who the dealer is. There is NO excuse for that kind of treatment. But even the best company has one slip through the cracks coming off the assembly line.
Keep us posted.

I'm a QA Manager, Stoney. We don't catch it all, neither does Tesoro. And, I have all intention of letting Tesoro know tomorrow.

Thanks for all the help.

call Tesoro and ask for Rusty. he is the first to see the detector when it comes in, and the last to check off on the repair! ie. the buck stops with him! he treated me as family. he is also a dealer and when funds permit will order an other Tesoro from him. imho, if tesoros' customer service doesnt work for you, well you cannot be helped. bedjr@bellsouth.net

Wow, the dealer called me today after I called Tesoro. He was humble and is going to change out my machine!! He was very nice about it and even had me send it UPS Overnight at his expense!! I'll have my new one early next week.

Yippppppppppppppppeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D
