Chumbawamba was inspired by Frank Zappa.
Tubthumping was placed at number 12 in Rolling Stone's list of the 20 Most Annoying Songs. Though I can understand Why. It it also obvious why as a Protest Song it became a hit.
on Letterman near the end at about 2:35 for about 10 Seconds, they started Chanting "Free Mumia Abu-Jamal"
which probably hurt them in the eyes of Many amercans. especially in the Philly Area .
Mumia Abu-Jamal is an American activist and journalist who was convicted and sentenced to death in 1982 for the 1981 murder of Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner.
At the 1998 BRIT Awards, the band performed the song with the added line "New Labour sold out the dockers, just like they'll sell out the rest of us" in protest at the New Labour government's refusal to support the Liverpool dockers' strike. about 42 seconds in.
