Found a good spot in a remote part of the cornfield of an old property I'm working. This strange assortment of finds (the hem weight was found in another spot) makes me believe this might have been a horse staging area. Most of the stuff is very decorative and the copper piece of jewelry has painting and a stone in the middle.

Some strange things to note, there is no junk in this area save for one lone bottlecap. Everything I dug was a good target. Another strange thing was I found a Sharps 3 ringer in the same location. Gave the Bullet to the owner and secured some more area to hunt :icon_thumleft: . At first I thought it was a Civil War camp but with all the pretty stuff coming out I don't think that's the case.

Have some of the stuff including the Buddha circulating the WII forum. The Buddha was the first find and one of the coolest of the day.

Thanks for looking and HH.

Great finds Bob , the budda is amazing :o interesting :icon_scratch: wonder how it ended up in a Va. cornfield :icon_scratch: :icon_thumleft:

Way to go on those nice digs!

I have yet to get out in this VA. soil since the move. I am sure there is something close by!

Some of my best finds in VA are in the middle of corn fields...nice swinging.

Thanks for the replies, pretty excited about this spot. Hopefully it will finally give up some old coins on this property

The same way all forge in objects do, they were brought over by migrants, or it was a keepsake from someone who visited there, and returned to Virginia with it. Really wonderful finds. I'm still digging trash and the occasional clad.

Thanks Cap'n Crunch. I was thinking about what I posted in your "disgusted" post when I titled it turning the corner.

Here's too hoping you turn your corner too.

Thanks Bob, I already suspect what my problem is. I am currently running a tone-only machine, no VDI at all. The tones are all sounding so much alike, I cant tell them apart. Yesterday I traded a gold dredge for an older Garret Grand Master Hunter Cx2, it's the older need-gauge style VDI machine. I just went back over to that trashy house and gave it a quick spin, I now found some clad amongst all that trash, so yes, it was my choice to go with a tone machine, that apparently, I dont have a good ear for. I am now working out a deal on a Whites MXT, that should tip the scales into my favor.

Strange or not Bob, I'd definitely be going back there. HH, Quindy.

Just like the 3rd century Roman Bronze in a NC Civil War camp :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow:

Great looking finds Bob! Those CW artifacts turn up everywhere

Oh yeah. This site has been frustrating. Lots of potential and lots of dumping and junk. So far when I've found a good target, its been surrounded by junk and iron. This is the first area that has been full of goodies and no junk.

can't wait to get back.

Thanks Jeff. I found Buddha right after I found the bullet. Found an Eagle button and CW stamping die on this property, so it got me thinking about Chinese people in the civil war thinking it may have been a camp. Doing some google searching turns up some good reading on Chinese Nationalist fighting in our civil war. Probably railroad workers recruited to work :dontknow:

that being said, with 200 years + of history on this property and the dumping that has occurred here the is probably no way to tie this piece to any time period. There is a marking of a leaf and some letters on the back which I have posted in the WII forum, but I'm not thinking I'll find out more about it.

VERY NICE FINDS!! :icon_thumleft:

its the one on the left a bolt from a rifle?

I like the gemstone too.

Cheers

Thanks Nutirasub

I think it is some sort of decorative bell.

The gemstone is almost certainly glass, however I'm having a hard time trying to clean it. There is some nice gold gilt and some painted dots on it that I don't want to remove with over cleaning.

Yeah me too Romeo. I was pretty excited when it popped out. Would love to know how it ended up there.
