Looks like it could well be malachite which is indeed a copper ore. Malachite is much heavier than turquoise. Was it alone? Usually copper ores are found in big deposits.

I found it by itself, waaaaay up on a mountain. Next to an old stone quarry. I googled malachite and it looks like the closest thing I’ve seen. Thanks !
