Backmarks are always important in dating buttons, but generally I think the NY Excelsior button is 1812-1829. The other is military, rifles militia, 1820's or so.
-Someone may clarify the dates and details, but I thought I'd say Nice Finds!

A rifleman's button must be pretty rare? No? The two buttons were found at two different spots about a mile apart. Can anyone else ID it as a riflemans button?

It don't look like your going to get much info from the back. They look early 1800's

The left one will clean up good with Lemon Juice. 10 mins at a time & rince well afterwards.
