Saturday was a cold cloudy day, calling for rain all day, but managed to get out a few hours in between the drops. I saw an old barn with a grassy lot around it....had a well, windmill etc...clearly a homesite. I stopped at a house closeby and asked him if he owned it and he said no but the next house down did. I stopped in there, the owner was outside hanging Christmas lights, he gave me permission, and while I was there I asked him if he owned the field down the road where two huge oaks trees stood, I saw a pile of foundation stones, bricks etc...so knew it was a homesite too.

He said he did own it and it was fine for me to go there, too wet for now because it is worked up and very muddy. So will hit it when I get the chance. So I hit around the grassy lot. First dig was the 1896 indian, then after that all junk. So I decided t go hit a bean field BadJim and I hit last saturday, It was wet, but bearable, the bean stubble helped some. I got the 1881 indian there, takes me to 173 injuns for the season.

Hit one last field that we worked last weekend, it was worked up and a muddy mess. But when I got there, I stepped out of my car, into the field, etrac in hand. Not more than 8-10 ft into the field, I see a green penny sized disk laying right on the surface, I figured it was an indian. Ran my coil over it so it beeped, that makes it count...lol:laughing7:

Bent over picked it up and it had writing on it....I knew right away this was NO indian....I had just got ANOTHER CW store card!!!! yes! This was not more than 10 ft from where BadJim got his CW store card last saturday! This made all the mud worth it!
The token was corroded and I tried to clean off the dirt with a toothpick, not much help, so I tried peroxide, didn't help a bit....so my last resort was to use a sos pad. The token is at least now readable. I am happy with it, could be much worse. You can see the date 1863, the shield says Union on it, Back says Anderson and Evans Grocers Ft Wayne Ind. which is about 35 miles west of me

You are the luckyest buckeye out there.. LOL. That store card is AWESOME!! Beats an injun anyday in my book.. CONGRATS.. HH

The soil was kind to the '96, good looking coin.

173 Indian Heads in one season is off the charts good! You could nearly fill a Whitman folder in one year. Congrats.
