I found my two best Mercury dimes this week, based entirely on condition. The first is a 1924-S which has some value in higher grades, so it only got rinsed with water and a gentle brushing with a toothbrush. It was pulled from the turf in Golden Gate Park on Tuesday.

The second was found yesterday. This was in a different area that I had hunted once before, not Golden Gate Park. Because the 1928 doesn't have much premium value even in the higher grade, I gave it a gentle massage with some baking soda. It is pretty close to full bands, but not quite. Despite the nick on her cheek, I think the 1928 is more appealing than the 24.

Which do you like better?

Thanks for looking and Happy Hunting!

Very nice Larry ! I need to travel 50 miles north and start hunting that park ! I like the 28 .

Yes the 28 looks better, but has some nicks near the top. When you have full split bands these coins are a bit more valuable--be careful cleaning them when they do. Any way nice winged libery dimes (WLDs)!!

N.B. to just say NO to the term Mercury dimes! :)

those are nice. the 28 is a real looker

Erik, I know it's the real name of the coin, but if no one uses it, then I don't want to come off like a pretentious goon. For me it will always be the Mercury Dime!

Wow those are in spectacular shape.. Congrats on the pristine coins..

cool ...got to love the silver :hello2:

Yes they are beautiful silver coins!

Those are 2 great looking Mercs.

Nice dimes, I like them both equally, it sorta like asking which of your kids do you like better, I wouldn't throw either back in the hole!!!

Those are very nice. The 24-S looks to be VF. And, no they are not "Mercury" dimes but probably will always be called that. Just like "Buffalo" nickels (although actually depicting a Bison on the reverse) will probably always be called Buffalo nickels.
