Hunting CWR halves at lunch and asked a BofA teller if she had half dollar coins. She called the branch manager, who told me, "Yes, we have two sizes of half dollar coins in the vault." "Two sizes? Can you show me both kinds?," I asked, trying not to bust out laughing. She brings out $100 in MWR halves and 12 Ikes. I wanted to see if she would actually try to sell the Ikes for $0.50 each. She actually started to, but I kindly stopped her and said these are dollar coins. I bought them all, but they were skunky. Oh well, it was worth the laugh.

Seems like knowing the current denominations of US coins and currency would be a good first interview question for a bank teller let alone branch manager position. What do you think?

Ya since they aren't used at all nowadays I could've bought several for $.50 as well

I get asked all the time if I want the large half dollars or the small half dollars.

I dont know much about coins, so I will take the large ones, thank you!

I had a girl today who said she would love to get rid of her dollar coins. she showed me 6 gold dollars, and 1 ASE.

I of course took the ASE for 1 dollar... a 2006!! My first large silver score from a bank! Wish I had a camera to take pics, its a little worn, but wow, for a buck... Awesome!! made up for my skunky 7 boxes

That is sweet

paid my barber today with some Ikes, he laughed and after describing what they were to him he said he loved them lol.

That is insane. Great cull. Ask her if she has any 400 oz gold bars.

I had to laugh when I read this post. I use some of my halves for spending money like tips, but in some cases at the register. It's always fun when some young register operator looks at the coin never having seen one before. Just amazing.

If the tellers don't know what the value of an Ike is, why don't they just look at it and see it says "one dollar?!"

If you'd purchased those 12 Ikes for $6.00, you very well may have been the first person in history at a bank to net a 100% return on a 9 second transaction.
Not likely to make any " We Banker" weekly strokes. LOL

I'm pretty Jamie Diamond at Chase has beat that 9 second 100% return time line.
But, I think he might have had to pay a fine, or get his knuckles rapped...
