Sunday's detecting was very productive in the woods in front of my house- My wife and I live in her Grandmother's house in Mahwah,NJ.We have been here since 1994. In 1983 her Grandmother was broken into and robbed while she slept- they took her wedding ring and engagement ring and she was heartbroken! They also stole her deceased husband's collection of old coins-many collected while he served overseas in WW 1.
We'll guess what? I think they threw what they didn't want in the woods and I'm in the process of finding some of the coins. On Sunday,October 20th, I detected these coins: 1948 large penny- very nice condition
1902 Indian penny
Foreign coins:
1871 Queen Victoria English?-very caked on deposits- trying to clean to further identify
1883 Dos Centavos coin- Argentina
2- 1918 25 Centime coins -France
1918 5 Centime coin
1928 silver dime- Canada
They didn't have an inventory of what coins were stolen, but I'll bet I found some of the foreign ones at least! The 1848 large cent was in a separate ares at a lower level,so I think someone dropped that one. It was a very exciting day of discovery/recovery and you can bet I'll be down there scouring the area for more.
