From what i have read everything in green an blue in this area is offlimits

Metal detectors are banned in state, Lower Colorado River Authority and Travis County parks. The City of Austin requires a permit to hunt in places such as Zilker Park, and they are granted only for extenuating circumstances, such as finding a lost wedding ring, said Austin parks spokesman Victor Ovalle.

Funny thing about the high school from a planning map on austin it was suppose to be a prison but i dont think was in the original build of austin

Then in a 1850's i saw on another map it wasnt built but there is a farmer leading a wagon train across the river there

find were the old shoal stream was and do some digging(and refrence material) for the crossing near there .wether a bridge or maybe toll bridge or trading post possibly

So "lose" your wedding ring..... I figure it might take, ummmm..... two weeks of steady detecting to find, I bet! ;)
