Unidentified rock object

I bought a load of Virginia Rock and this was one of them caught my eye I can't tell if it's petrified of snakes or roots kind of leaning towards roots

I was told the rocks come out of Duff field Virginia

it ain't snakes. Petrified stalks - whether crinoid (animal) or vegetable. But I'd go crinoid because they are segmented.
