Cool find man. It's diffidently a very old civil war navy button. I don't know exactly how much it would be worth. Probably 100 dollars give or take.

and found Mercury gilded 1850-1865 Civil War era US Navy cuff button! (Jul 04, 2010, 05:29 PM) that contains buttons that look like yours and others that are very close - very interesting thread full of information...
