Unknown war pin

I dug this today at a homesite that was in use from the 1940's- the 90's. Most finds are from the 40's to 70's, so im thinking this pin is either Vietnam or World War 2. The enamel is all worn off, so I can't tell what I have. If anyone can help ID this pin, it would be very appreciated. Thanks and happy hunting!

I would say it is an older VFW pin. It has many characteristics of their pins

Stylistically it's a Maltese Cross, I don't recognize it as any military medal, and I'm wondering if it's not Masonic or from another fraternal group.

Some resemblance, not saying it is though - Badge of the Life-Guards Cossack (Cavalry) Regiment of His Majesty (1911)

It's similar to the one deepsecrets posted, but the center is different, and it appears to have had something riveted to it in the middle as well. I haven't been able to locate a two piece medal that matches....

Also, from the pic it has the look of corroded pot metal which makes me think costume jewelry... can you post a pic of the back? Is the pin still there?
