Once in a while I’ll find some, normally it’s from something that was broken.

This has been this month though. First a pocket watch case. Scrapped it for $780 The back of it was all messed up. Still very pretty. Not marked. It was in a $7 junk jewelry bag

Last week a brooch. 18 K. Scrapped at $385. Paid $2. Looked very well-made and there was something soldered in the center of it but it looked well make.

This Saturday was a pair of earrings for $6. And they looked good! Acid was good on 14k. A whopping 32.5 grams. I was shocked!

(Everything was xrf tested by the refinery by one of these)

Those clip ons look suspect to me.

Also... I hope they are not real... for MY sake not yours...

for I have seen that exact pair dozens and dozens of times over the 30 years of digging through clip ons.

The watch is gorgeous. The orchid brooches like the one you found show up here a few times a year. They are usually hand engraved “18k” and frequently have a pearl in the middle. I’ve seen them new in craft jewelry shops in Mexico and Colombia.

I like the way the clip is mounted to the back of the earrings - definitely would have given those a second look.

XRF in my experience is a good tool for quick sorting but is somewhat useless for finished jewelry because it cannot make heads or tails out of all the gold filled stuff in the US secondary market. Run a 20 year watch case under it and the software will say it’s gold. You still end up having to file into the piece.

I Think it’s the lighting. I even cut into one side of it and tested the inside, it was good. But the XRF was dead on for 14k.

These ones had a ring when you hit them together. A lot of times when they’re Gold plated over copper or some other metal they don’t make anything like a ringing sound. More like a thud. Lol. If that makes sense.

I didn’t sell them yet though. Bills are paid for this month. I’ll see how the next couple months go!

Outstanding finds! :notworthy:

I traded the earrings and added $100 for this.

Same store as the other earrings two weeks later $6. same design on the back. 23.7 g of 14 K!

I walked in there thinking there’s no way, I’ll never find anything like that at the store again. Look in the case and go holy crap! Clerk hands them to me. I pay instantly!

This time they’re actually marked. I didn’t realize that until I got out of the car.

Nice Catch Hope the fines keep coming
